2BDM, a singular structure

One of the leading French architecture firms, 2BDM Architectes  is a structure unique of its kind, dedicated to early heritage (historic monuments and gardens). 2BDM was created from the merger, in 2010, of the firms of four chief architects from Historic Monuments: Christophe Batard, Christophe Bottineau, Frédéric Didier and Jacques Moulin. Based in Paris with a branch in Versailles, the firm works for public and private clients. It brings together a team specialized in restoration, restructuring and rehabilitation operations, requiring a contemporary intervention or not. In this sense, 2BDM regularly works with the greatest French and foreign creators. Concerned about the relevance of its action and its clients’ needs, the firm has a staff of over 70 people. Heritage architects, engineers, landscape designers, art historians, construction economists and an administrative team contribute all the expertise needed to understand the most complex projects and buildings.

2BDM is the largest private structure in France devoted to historic heritage.

Activities throughout France and abroad

Chief architects of Historic Monuments, the 2BDM partners are responsible for works entrusted to them by the Ministry of Culture: the châteaux and estates of Versailles and the Champs-sur-Marne, the Palais de Justice of Paris (including the Conciergerie and Sainte-Chapelle), École Militaire, Hôtel de la Marine, the Vendôme column, Mobilier National, the cathedrals of Saint-Denis, Metz, Meaux, Autun...

Concurrently, the firm is in charge of many public and private projects, everywhere in France. 2BDM consequently works in Burgundy (Vézelay basilica), the Montmoyen château, etc.), Brittany and Normandy (Cherbourg theater, many private châteaux, etc.), Alsace (Haut-Koenigsbourg château, Petite France in Strasbourg, etc.) and Corsica (Bonifaco ramparts, Corte citadel, monuments in Bastia in the framework of the city’s development of tourism, etc.).

Its experience and expertise permit it to take charge of prestigious projects outside France, for example in the Czech Republic (installation of the economic mission at the French embassy), Denmark (restoration of the music room of the Thott Palace in Copenhagen) and Belgium (Saints-Pierre-et-Paul basilica in Saint-Hubert, Saint-Martin church in Arlon), etc.

2BDM moreover undertakes historical and heritage, feasibility and programming studies and proposes a consulting activity.

Union at the service of the architectural project

The strength of 2BDM is drawn from its history, from the pooling of the experience of its teams and partners. Offering, under a single name, the diversity of their personalities, careers and sensibility, proposing a specific methodology and rigor to treat the most complex works is our objective for the success of the projects entrusted to us. 2BDM conducts the smallest and most sensitive projects, such as the restoration of baroque churches in Corsica and Brittany, and the most consequential such as the restoration of the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris, the former Richaud hospital in Versailles, the monuments of the medieval city of Provins and the former prisons of Lyon. Our worksites are often on occupied sites and are carried out on buildings that are sensitive from the viewpoint of access and the safety of property. Our interventions find all their meaning in complex technical and regulatory contexts to which we bring adapted responses. Each partner is an expert in the specificities and construction and intervention methods in the areas in which he works. Consequently, 2BDM  knows how to adapt to all types of heritage, in every region of France, from the Gallo-Roman period to the 20th century. The firm has proved itself in the management of technical or contemporary renovation projects, indispensible to the second life of early sites.
